Skin Cancer Check

Our main aim is the early detection of skin cancer. Using a special skin microscope and a process known as dermoscopy, we are able to see the skin surface and the deeper elements in the skin, thereby helping us to assess a suspicious mole or skin lesion. Dermoscopy increases the likelihood of detecting early melanomas.

DermLite DL100 is used for the early detection of melanoma. This device has a powerful lens and provides a clear and deep view into pigmented legions without the use of oil.

The second aim is to increase specifity. Dermoscopy can achieve specificity of 85% and helps to prevent unnecessary removal of moles and skin lesions which turn out to be non-cancerous.

Molescan technology allows us to store images of lesions in a patient's file. By doing so, we can make exact comparisons during follow-up consultations. As changes to a mole or skin lesion are are important in the analysis of skin cancer, the technology is invaluable to early detection.

Digital dermoscopy or computerised dermoscopy is another technology which allows images to be saved for future comparisons. Software programs are also used for this comparison and provides more information to patient and doctor for more accurate decision making.
